Privacy Policy

The short version: we don't collect personal information, your wheels stay on your device, and we'll tell you exactly what gets stored where.

Site owner note: This policy is a plain-language starting point, not legal advice. Review it with a qualified professional or a policy generator (Termly, GetTerms, iubenda) before launching publicly, particularly before enabling analytics or AdSense, and especially for EU/UK compliance.

The short version

Spinly is a free spinning wheel tool that runs entirely in your browser. We don't ask you to create an account. We don't have a database of users. The wheels you create are stored on your own device, not on our servers.

We may show ads on the site (via Google AdSense), and those ads come with their own tracking. Details on that are below.

What information we collect

Information you give us directly

We do not collect any information you type into the wheel. The names, options, weights, and sequences you set are stored in your browser's local storage and never transmitted to us. If you email us, we'll have a copy of that email, obviously, but that's the only way you'd be sending us information directly.

Information collected automatically

Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs that include things like your IP address, browser type, and which pages you visited. These are typical for any website and are used to keep the site running, not to track individuals.

If we've installed website analytics โ€” for example, Google Analytics or a similar privacy-focused alternative โ€” that service collects information about how the site is used in aggregate. We use this only to understand which pages people find useful, not to identify individuals.

How we store data

Local storage (your browser)

Spinly uses your browser's local storage to remember:

  • The current state of the wheel you're working on (so it's there when you come back)
  • Any wheels you've named and saved
  • Your spin results history

This data lives on your device, not on our servers. If you clear your browser's data, these wheels will be gone. They're not synced anywhere and we can't recover them for you.

Shareable links

When you use the "Share" button, Spinly encodes your wheel data into the URL itself (after the # symbol). This link contains the option names, weights, and other settings โ€” encoded but not encrypted. Anyone you send the link to can load your wheel by opening it.

Because the data is in the URL fragment (the part after #), it is not sent to our servers. But anyone with the link has access to whatever is in it, so use judgment if the names on your wheel are sensitive.

Cookies and similar technologies

Spinly itself does not set any cookies. We use local storage instead, which serves a similar purpose but is more limited in scope.

If we serve ads via Google AdSense, Google may set cookies and use other tracking technologies to show you relevant ads. You can read about Google's ad practices here: policies.google.com/technologies/ads. You can opt out of personalised advertising via your Google Ads Settings.

Third-party services

The following third-party services may be in use on this site:

  • Google Fonts โ€” to load the typeface used across the site. Loading a font file from Google may include your IP address being known to Google.
  • Google AdSense (if enabled) โ€” to display ads. AdSense uses cookies and similar technologies. See the link in the section above.
  • Web analytics (if enabled) โ€” to understand site usage in aggregate.

Children's privacy

Spinly is suitable for use by people of all ages, including in classrooms. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The wheel itself does not ask for any identifying information.

Your rights

Because we don't store personal information about you on our servers, there isn't much for us to give you, delete, or correct. You can delete any data Spinly has stored locally by clearing your browser's site data for this site, which will remove all saved wheels and results.

If you live somewhere with specific data protection laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.) and have a question about your rights, get in touch and we'll do our best to help.

Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. We don't have a mailing list to notify, so checking back here is the way to keep current.
